I think that you got it down perfectly. That's a definite benefit of reading stories where the boys start things up at a younger age. There is still some innocence left and they aren't so jaded. I also think it gives them an added weapon against their foes, because even in the show, they are better together than apart, like this, they're a force to be reckoned with.
