I made them German because the hunters needed to be from another country, freshly arrived in the US, so that Sam and Dean would feel secure that they did not know who the boys are, and they could have a Christmas dinner with other people. I picked German because I am half-German, and know a tiny bit of the language, and my sister used to sing O Tannenbaum in German, acapella, every year. She has a beautiful voice, and it was one of the most memorable things for me about Christmas. So I thought I could inject this real-life stuff into the story and give it some nice, believable detail.

And because a guy with a German accent saying "But...where is your pickle?" is just hysterically funny to me.
