I think this is about as 'real' as writing is going to get... When you're writing your own books/novels/stories, no one knows if you're incorrect in what you're saying, or how your characters are acting. But here? We all KNOW how Sam/Dean/Bobby/John/etc. act (with our own headcanons, obviously) and it's your job to make your writing here fit with the reality of the show as well as what you want and making it flow into a story.
I admire fic writers as much as actual writers- even with all the imagination it takes to create a new setting and such; there's just as much effort put into shaping premade characters into our own.
