I model Gus on those guys who get sent to prison for making one mistake, not doing something really horrible but something goes wrong and they end up in prison, and there they are turned into something far worse than when they went in, through being surrounded by hopelessness and real criminals, real evil, and the abuse and torment. That's how Gus became a demon.
